About the vANZ Roster Builder

The Roster Builder is a tool to add a little more realism to your vANZ experincing by emulating a real-world pilot roster system. You choose an operator to fly for, a starting hub you wish to begin the roster at, and the number of legs you wish to fly. The system creates a random roster for you and you have 4-weeks to complete it at which point you will be awarded bonus hours based on number of legs. We even book you a hotel room (virtual of course) at any destination where you need to stay-over for the night before your next leg.

Following is a link to the new roster system. You'll be asked to log in (if not already logged in elsewhere) using your usual NZxxx username and password.

Building a Roster

After logging in select an operator you are cleared to fly for (e.g. Eagle Air, Air Nelson, Mt Cook or Air New Zealand), select a hub that the operator uses (the list will be filtered to reflect the hubs used by each operator) and finally select the number of legs you wish to fly during the roster.

When you click "Generate roster" the system will choose a random selection of legs out and back from the hub you choose to destinations served from there, on the airframe you chose. You may "Accept" the initial roster created, or "Generate another", or "Start over" and choose another operator or hub altogether.

Flying Roster legs

Once you've accepted a roster you simply fly each leg beginning with the first one (of course) and use FSACARS just as you usually would. As you complete each leg it will be checked off in the roster and if you visit the assignment page above after each leg you'll see the progress being displayed. Each completed leg will also display the actual duration and how much fuel you burned on the leg, including the average fuel-burn for that leg which should give you an indication as to how efficient (or otherwise) your flying has been.

You'll need to fly each leg in the order it is shown in on the roster page. You can fly legs that aren't on the roster at any time using FSACARS and they will be logged to you as usual but of course these wont be counted on the roster page.

You'll notice on your new roster page a print icon above the schedule. We've setup the page so it should print your schedule out nicely on a single page without all the website peripheral content and images etc.

Completing a Roster

When you complete all legs on the roster you should receive an email confirming its completed and when you visit the assignment page again you will see that you can now create a new roster.

At this stage we have set the minimum number of legs to three. Feel free to select more than three, but if you do please remember that if you don't complete all legs you wont receive the bonus hours. However a longer roster does look and feel a tad more realistic and even 6 flights (which is the longest roster length) in a month is easily done.

You will receive total bonus hours based on 15mins per leg and a minimum of 1-hour total for a completed roster.

When you complete your first roster you'll notice that it appears on the bottom of the Roster Builder page, as will all subsequent completed rosters. This gives you an easy way to go back and review your old roster details which will be kept on database. Only you and the HR team are able to view your roster history.

Feedback and Future changes

At this stage the roster system is restricted to domestic operations only. This is mostly so we can iron out the way the system works over coming months but we intend to open it up initially to A320/ZEAL operations trans-tasman, and hopefully further afield for senior staff on long-haul routes.

If you notice any problems at all, have any feedback about the way the system works, or have suggestions for how you think it could be improved, please contact the webteam so we can improve the system over time.

Thanks for taking an interest in the system. We're sure you will enjoy using it.
